Aegis Ascendant is a strategy role-playing game I am developing that has been inspired by X-COM: UFO Defense and its lineage including community produced mods like Long War and XPiratez, the earlier entries in the Fire Emblem series, the 1993 SNES RTS Metal Marines, AI War: Fleet Command, Skald: Against the Black Priory, and more.
In Aegis Ascendant, players will take control of a new, small faction of pilots, engineers, and scientists trying to survive amongst the wash of other factions running amok on the planet. On the strategic level, players will need to build bases and assign units to missions, perform research, as well as produce and position strategic assets to support tactical game play. Once engaged on a tactical mission, the player will then take control of their squad of mecha to outmaneuver enemy squads and achieve their goals.
Early on, players will be newcomers to the political landscape and will need to exercise care to not rouse too much attention from the big players too early. Assigning operatives to intelligence missions on the strategic layer will help reveal what sort of obstacles there are on missions including the specifications of the enemy mecha forces, and various strategic assets can be put in place to support tactical missions, such as artillery, early warning radar, long range sniper support, and more.
Through production, recovering wrecks, and looting enemy warehouses players will gain access to new components and systems for their mecha lances. As they train and battle, the pilots of these mecha will grow and change over time, acquiring new skills and lasting wounds that will affect how- or if- the players choose to deploy them.
As of right now, the game is far too early in development for a playable demo, but as development progresses I hope to put one up.
